Make sure to take easier fights where you can make more difference yourself when you start out, lure the enemy away from your troops so they dont get to rush straight into them.
I would suggest either start with ranged or try to get some cavalry early on so you can take the focus off the nords, if the enemy gets to clash straight into them early on they will chop down a few for sure. Nords can be hard to level up because they are melee and before they actually get to Huscarl level, they die quite easily.
